The Really Delicious Food Company Limited

History of Company:

Fifteen years ago, a food to go shop in Bath Street opened and caught the attention of the Glasgow Corporate Community. Hungrys was born, and soon began delivering to businesses around Glasgow. Those early days laid the foundations for The Really Delicious Food Company. The corporate side was the main focus of the business going forward and Hungrys was then acquired in 2003 with a view to widening its market offering and increasing its scale.

Finger, Fork and Formal Food Delivered to your Door is the companys core proposition. Whether it is for meetings or parties in the office or the home Really-Delicious.com is there to provide a first class service and of course top notch food! Thats what we do. And we do it really, really well!

The Bath Street shop is long gone but its spirit of innovation and service lives on in Really-Delicious.com. We have made significant investments in people, and technology, to ensure we bring you the best. Watch this space!

Nature of Business:

The business is in the throes of a re-branding exercise, away from the original Hungrys name, to The Really Delicious Food Co. This new name combined with our new strapline Finger, Fork and Formal Food Delivered Direct to Your Door conveys the essence of the business. On a day to day basis the corporate and public sector meetings market is our bread and butter, however the run up to Christmas is usually our busiest time, with Corporate and Private Parties. A considerable investment has been made in people, who have a passion for quality and service.

In order to give this new team the tools they needed to provide great service, a bespoke software application, to run all aspects of the operation, was commissioned and has now been integrated with a full e-commerce website. We now have around 30% of our orders being placed on-line, which puts our customers in complete control, giving us more time to talk with them.

We firmly believe e-commerce is the future and our bespoke system is really easy to operate and really effective.

Who do you currently supply?:

We have tendered for and supply a number of Public Sector Organisations including the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, The NHS in Scotland and the BBC. In addition, we have a large number of blue chip corporate customers in the private sector.

What has been your experience of the procurement process?:

Generally, a positive experience, winning more tenders than not. The more effort that goes into the tender process, the more likely a positive outcome will be achieved. Public Sector bodies operate within strict guidelines and potential suppliers must recognise this and work with them throughout the tendering process.

Vital not to be overawed at the PQQ stage and also to recognise the imperative need for Regulatory Compliance

I like tenders because of the prescriptive nature of the briefs you know exactly where you stand.

Any top tips:

  • Always leave plenty of time to prepare it will take longer than you think dont be late with your submission timescales are rigidly adhered to
  • Have a review process before documents are submitted it is easy to miss obvious mistakes
  • Build up a library of tenders there is usually no need to completely re-invent the wheel with each tender but be careful when using copy and paste
  • Tender only for things you can do really well stick to your knitting
  • Answer the questions asked dont waffle it just annoys.
  • Try to build a rapport within the confines of the tender process
  • Focus on what makes your business different and special in our case on line ordering and breadth of product choice

Future plans for your company:

Capitalising on the investments made in the team and in systems, the company will continue to grow in the West and Central Scotland and will look to spread its wings by opening in other cities in the next few years. We have a business model and software package that is unique and has the potential to transform this niche sector
