Scottish Futures Trust: Updated Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool

Scottish Futures Trust has a Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool that provides a forward look to the anticipated public sector spend within the construction industry.

The Forecast Tool has had its six-monthly refresh, and thanks to the support of the public sector bodies working in partnership with Scottish Futures Trust, the value of public sector construction projects has increased to £11.6bn across 48 public bodies. The update means that suppliers can now access over 1,660 future infrastructure projects across 19 sectors.

The innovative tool was launched as one of the key actions that came out of the Scottish Construction Leadership Forum’s Recovery Plan, published in October 2022. It aims to provide the construction industry with greater clarity and understanding of future public sector construction projects that will be delivered across Scotland. The types of construction projects it includes are:

• New Builds
• Refurbishments
• Maintenance Works
• Roads Infrastructure

The Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool allows users to simply and easily explore data held using various criteria that include; the chosen procurement route, the procuring authority, and the contract value and sector. The Pipeline tool also seeks to provide a longer-term view on forecast investments and identifies construction projects up to 2028, with the majority of the forecast spend occurring before 2025.

Welcoming the update of the Construction Pipeline Forecast Tool, Gillian Cameron, Programme Manager at the Supplier Development Programme said:

“SDP understands that early visibility of projects and potential supply chain opportunities is critical for suppliers, particularly SMEs and supported businesses. Updates to the tool, ensure that businesses can keep up to date with projects both locally and in the 32 local authority areas in Scotland. Thus, assisting businesses to understand the status of projects, identify those that are of interest to them and that can support the growth of their business”.
