Stirling Council is open for business and shopping local for organisations and suppliers to secure contracts with the local authority.

The Council is hosting a Community Wealth Building Supplier Event on Tuesday 12th July where businesses will be able to gain an understanding of the opportunities to work with the Council in 2022/2023.

Attendees at the in-person event will gain an introduction to Community Wealth Building and receive information on how they can become part of the supply chain for contracts with the Council.

Hosted at the Albert Halls in Stirling between 10am-1pm, the event will offer the chance for local businesses to speak with exhibitors from the public sector, private contractors and business support providers.

Stirling Council procurement staff will also be on hand to offer advice about future contracts and the Council’s capital delivery plan, as well as share details on the Supplier Development Support Programme, which is assisting the Council to deliver the event and offers free tender training to micro, small and medium sized businesses based in Stirling and across Scotland.

Convener of the Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, Councillor Gerry McGarvey, said: “Community Wealth Building helps deliver more local employment and a larger and more diverse business base for the Council to work with, ensuring that wealth is both locally owned and also benefits local people.

“It is about how we work as an organisation and with partners, from the goods that we buy to the people that we employ and the powers we have to maximise local economic opportunities.

"Stirling, ideally situated at the heart of Scotland is not only open for business but open to businesses, and it is this idea that we, in Stirling can be the beating heart of economic development by creating opportunities for wealth building locally that can benefit everyone locally.

“This event will offer local Stirling organisations the opportunity to raise their profile as a business and prepare for upcoming contract opportunities through the Supplier Development Programme.

“As well as a number of speakers on the day, we will also have exhibitor stands from a number of local companies and organisations, and there will be a fantastic opportunity for networking.”

Gillian Cameron, Supplier Development Programme Manager, said: “This Community Wealth Building event, led by Stirling Council, is part of the extensive national programme of engagement events and training activities supported by the Supplier Development Programme, which is designed to support green economic recovery plans and improve the capability of SME and third sector organisations to bid for public contracts and supply chain opportunities.

“The Supplier Development Programme is actively working in partnership with Stirling Council towards its aim to ensure that local businesses get the most benefit of public sector contracts by further placing control and benefits into the hands of local people, and no business is too small to get involved.

“Attending this Stirling Council event will give businesses of all sizes a chance to ask all their questions, pick up top tips for tendering, network and introduce their business to exhibitors, and maybe even allow them to meet their next customer.”

This free event is open to all, please book your free place in advance.
