Aberdeenshire - Battery Energy Storage System – Torvean, Inverness

The Highland Council declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency in 2019, demonstrating it’s commitment to sustainability, carbon reduction, and delivering cost-effective energy solutions for tenants and local communities To progress this commitment, a 9.9MW grid connection (import/export) has been secured, and the Council now seeks to enter into a land lease agreement with a lead Developer to deliver and operate a battery energy storage system (BESS) facility. This facility is intended to maximise local energy utilisation and provide grid support to mitigate system constraints.

 Revenue streams for the Council are generated from three sources:

·         Option to Lease payments

·         Annual Land Lease payments

·         A Gainshare agreement based on a percentage of revenue.
