TALGO announced in November that Longannet, Fife is the preferred location for a new rolling stock factory in the UK, should it secure a significant UK rolling stock contract. It is envisaged that the new facility will employ at least a thousand people, occupying an area of 70,000+ square metres. Construction of the factory will take eighteen months, with additional jobs supported during the planning and construction phase. The company will outline its aim for ‘true manufacturing’ and an ‘all Britain’ strategy for the proposed facility at Longannet, with ambition to protect and grow the supply chain across the UK, provide opportunities for young people, and grow the UK’s industrial base.
