Current Active Travel Projects 

City Centre West East Link

Client: Edinburgh City Council

The City of Edinburgh Council are investing in improving conditions for cycling and walking around the city. This is in line with the strategy to encourage more people to travel by bike or on foot for everyday journeys. The West Edinburgh Link (WEL) project is a high priority scheme within the Council’s Active Travel Investment Programme 2019-24.The projects vision is to transform cycling, walking, public spaces and accessibility for all within and around one of Scotland’s key business parks, in the west of Edinburgh. CCWEL will connect up South Gyle, Edinburgh Park and local neighbourhoods with high quality walking and cycling routes and new public spaces.

Roseburn to Union Canal Cycle Link

Client: Edinburgh City Council

The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) is committed to developing and delivering its Active Travel Action Plan1 (ATAP) that aims to increase walking and cycling levels in the city significantly.

The plan contains a wide range of actions to achieve this including substantial increases in the provision of cycling facilities. One of the main strategies behind the plan is to develop a network of ‘family[1]friendly’ and off-road routes across the City. This route is an important missing link in the network and will provide safer, more direct and convenient access to key destinations by bike and on foot. There will also be better access to green space, community gardens at Sauchiebank and improvements to the Dalry Community Park. 

Edinburgh North Bridge Project

Client: Edinburgh City Council

The City of Edinburgh Council committed to the refurbishment of a three span arch bridge which is a main access road into the city centre of Edinburgh in central Scotland. It spans over the existing roof of Waverley Railway Station. Works Onsite include, Steelwork Repairs, Grit blasting & Painting, Pavement waterproofing and resurfacing, Concrete Deck Repairs, Cast iron Façade Repairs and replacement of expansion joints. 

Royal Botanic Gardens – Victorian Palm House

Client : Royal Botanic Gardens

Full restoration of the Grade A Listed Victorian Temperate and Tropical Palm Houses to meet Statutory Obligations for the Listed Buildings and protection of the National Living Collection. The works involve the full replacement of glass; full refurbishment of ironwork including paint removal, repair and repaint; stonework repair and fit out works including install of new heating system.​

Fife College Campus 

Client: Fife College Council

Design and construction of three interlinking buildings spanning over 20,000m2, in a new learning campus in Dunfermline which will house the state of the art teaching facilities and learning spaces for students, staff and business clients. As part of its commitment to leave a lasting positive legacy for the communities in which it operates, Balfour Beatty has committed to 50% of its workforce being made up of people from the local surrounding area. The new campus will be situated on a 58-acre purpose-built low carbon site in the eastern expansion area of Dunfermline, and is due to open by the Summer of 2024.
