Off the back of last year’s incredibly successful Fife Meet the Buyer virtual event, Fife Council approached the Supplier Development Programme to organise another as this year’s flagship event at Fife Business Week. The Fife Council Meet the Buyer 2021: Dunfermline Learning Campus and Levenmouth Railway Link Supply Chain Opportunities event will take place virtually on Thursday, 4 November.

This event affords Scottish SMEs the unique opportunity to learn about a huge range of contract opportunities on two major projects in Fife: the Dunfermline Learning Campus (DLC) (£200m project) and the Levenmouth Railway Link project delivery (£70m project).

Councillor Altany Craik, Convenor for Fife Council’s Economy, Tourism, Strategic Planning and Transportation Committee said, “Meet the Buyer is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to be a part of two of the biggest development programmes in Fife in many years. As always, Meet the Buyer offers businesses access to the major developers, supplier framework and Fife Council Procurement.”

The Supplier Development Programme is hosting this event in partnership with Fife Council Economic Development, hub East Central Scotland, Fife College, BAM, Balfour Beatty, and Network Rail. Suppliers will be able to talk to all the organisations involved to find out what contract work is available on the projects and the requirements needed to be eligible to bid for them.

There are 14 public and private sector organisations registered as exhibitors, including partners at Story Contracting Ltd, Babcock International and SPL Powerlines UK Ltd.

Amanda Wright, Community Benefits and Social Value Manager, hub East Central Scotland, explained what suppliers can expect from to hear from hub East Central Scotland at the event: “hub East Central Scotland is committed to working with local businesses within our communities to ensure that they have the best possible opportunity to bid on our projects.

"It is our priority that wherever possible our projects are delivered by local businesses that employ local people. There is a wide range of opportunities available on these projects for every size of business and we look forward to supporting them at the event with advice and information to help them succeed.”

Hector MacAulay MBE, Managing Director, Balfour Beatty Scotland, said: “The Dunfermline Learning Campus represents a significant investment in Dunfermline and wider Fife. Through our delivery of the new college campus on behalf of Fife College, we want to ensure that we make opportunities available to local people and deliver a legacy of meaningful and measurable benefit by building wealth and resilience within the community.”

Martin Cooper, Construction Director, BAM Construction, said: “BAM are delighted to be supporting the Meet the Buyer Event as part of Fife’s Business Week on the 4 November. Dunfermline Learning Campus is an important project, and we want to engage and support the local business community as much as possible. At BAM, over 80% of our supply chain are SMEs and we take our commitment to working with local SMEs and Third Sector Organisations very seriously. We look forward to speaking to local businesses at the event.

On the day there will also be a main agenda with speakers on hot topics on how to do business with each of the partnering organisations, Community Benefits, Subcontracting Opportunities etc. You can read the full agenda on the Fife Council Meet the Buyer 2021: Dunfermline Learning Campus and Levenmouth Railway Link Supply Chain Opportunities event page.

Supplier Development Programme

Businesses will also learn about top tendering tips and gain insight into the support that is available to become “tender ready” for these future opportunities through the Supplier Development Programme

Gillian Cameron, SDP Programme Manager said, "Following the success of last year’s event, SDP is delighted to be hosting this year’s Fife Council Meet the Buyer event in partnership with Fife Council Economic Development, hub East Central Scotland, Fife College, BAM, Balfour Beatty, and Network Rail. After last year’s event three-quarters of suppliers were more confident in engaging with Supply Chain Contractors and Council Procurement about contract and supply chain opportunities. We hope to see this positive effect in this year’s event as more opportunities arise as businesses are on the road to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
