Perth and Kinross Council teams up with neighbouring councils to support local businesses in public sector bids

Perth and Kinross Council has announced a joint online event in partnership with the Supplier Development Programme (SDP) and neighbouring local authorities aimed at local businesses.

Each year, £11bn is spent in Scotland’s public sector on goods, works and services, and Perth and Kinross Council wants to engage with local businesses to deliver its share of upcoming contracts.

Jennifer Payne, a SDP Development Officer, is helping to organise the online event. She said: “No business is too small to get involved in public sector spending. Even a one-person operation can have something to offer.

“The problem for many micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) is knowing how to do business with the public sector, so local authorities like Perth and Kinross Council can invite them to bid to deliver the contracts on offer.

“That’s where the Supplier Development Programme comes in: we work closely with councils in partnership to help SMEs find, win and keep public sector contracts.”

A free webinar called, ‘Talking Tenders with Fife and Tayside’ will take place on Tuesday, 6 October at 2:00pm. Three other local authorities are taking part with Perth and Kinross Council, including Angus, Fife and Dundee City Councils.

Allan Harrow, Head of Procurement at Perth and Kinross Council, thinks engagement with procurement departments through this webinar is an unmissable opportunity for local businesses.

“Perth and Kinross Council is delighted to invite you to join a free webinar with the Supplier Development Programme where you can hear from buyers from the Council talk about future contract opportunities and how best to go about bidding for Council work.

“We know that firms from across Tayside are always on the lookout for new opportunities, and some are perhaps considering working with the public sector for the first time.

“This webinar should benefit SMEs as well as more experienced organisations in taking a fresh look at their approach to competing for public sector work.”

Fraser McGowan, Perth and Kinross Council’s Enterprise, Trade and Investment Team Leader, added: “We are pleased to welcome businesses from all sectors across Tayside to our event on 6 October 2020.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about procurement within the public sector and an opportunity to assist you in bidding for these contracts.”

Suppliers can register for the free webinar on 6 October on the SDP Scotland website.
