The Supplier Development Programme Scotland (SDP) is looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to fulfil a new Business Development Officer role to deliver new stakeholder engagement to support the design, delivery, promotion, servicing and monitoring of SDP memberships, including events and activities across Scotland.

SDP is a Local Authority Partnership Programme established to offer small and medium sized enterprises (SME) the opportunity to grow and diversify through procurement. SDP aims to assist SMEs performance in winning contracts in the public sector by providing information, support and training events to help unravel the tendering process.

You will have an in-depth knowledge of business development, B2B service sales and customer service, and project management and co-ordination skills, aligned to specific goals to engage and introduce new public sector organisations and primary contractors in the private sector to taking paid membership of the Supplier Development Programme, as well as taking up sponsorship and exhibitions in SDP’s large scale annual Meet the Buyer events.

The candidate will have well developed and comprehensive IT skills, with the ability to create and produce reports on activities delivered and ideally experience of using a website content management service.

You will be a good communicator, able to support the Programme Manager by networking effectively to further develop strong working relationships with Local Authority partners, Scottish Government, Business Support Agencies and procurement bodies. You must clearly demonstrate the ability to manage multiple stakeholders of varying seniority. In addition to building contacts with potential organisations, sectors and projects to create new business opportunities, you will write new business membership proposals, maintain knowledge of all service offerings and workings of SDP, arrange and conduct meetings with prospective organisations and existing stakeholders and partners, and provide on-going membership services to new and existing SDP membership organisations in conjunction with the full SDP Team.

A degree in Business, Sales Management, Marketing or a similar discipline is desirable, as is a general understanding of the public sector tendering process. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate competence as detailed in the online job profile.
