Highland Council Invites Tenders for New Electric Corran Ferry

Highland Council LogoHighland Council is looking for a suitably qualified supplier to design and build a new electric ferry to replace the MV Corran.

The Corran Ferry service is one of Scotland’s busiest single-vessel crossings. The current ferry is 25 years old and has suffered several breakdowns in recent years.

The council intends to appoint a sole supplier under a Shipyard Detailed Design and Build Contract for the delivery of a replacement Corran Ferry. The contract covers one small electric roll-on/roll-off passenger and vehicle (ro-pax) ferry, which will operate mainly on the Corran-Ardgour route. The build location is at the contractor’s discretion.

Highland Council will appoint a project manager and an on-site project team for the duration of the contract. They will monitor progress and ensure the vessel is designed, built and set to work in line with the agreed operational and technical requirements, and with classification society and Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) rules and regulations.

A contract notice has been published on Public Contracts Scotland (PCS), although interested parties will need to register with PCS-T to access additional information and express their interest.

The time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is Tuesday 10 November 2026 at 12 noon.
